Supporting Education and Young People

More than 775 million people over the age of 15 are illiterate. That’s 17 percent of the world’s adult population.

Our goal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy. We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults.

Backpacks for Children of Refugee Families

The Australian Migrant Resource Centre extend its appreciation to the Mitcham Rotary Club for its continued support for AMRC’s client communities including the donation of 100 backpacks containing stationery, toiletry bags, lunch boxes and drink bottles for distribution to school aged children of refugee and migrant background.

The donation is greatly significant to the families who are preparing their children to attend school, many of them, for the first time in South Australia.

School of St Jude's, Tanzania

We are proud to support the School of St Jude’s, Tanzania which endeavours to break the region’s cycle of poverty through education. Our members regularly visit to volunteer and witness this amazing success story which has seen the school grow from three students to more than 1800 in fourteen years. Mitcham Rotary Club has sponsored individual students, contributed to the construction of a girl's dormitory, provided equipment for general school use and added to their library through the donation of books.
